সৌরশক্তি ব্যবহার করে খাদ্য বর্জ্য থেকে বায়োগ্যাস ও সার তৈরি প্রকল্পের নকশা করে যুক্তরাজ্যের সম্মানজনক এফিশিয়েন্সি ফর অ্যাক্সেস ডিজাইন চ্যালেঞ্জ প্রতিযোগিতায় স্বর্ণপদক জিতেছে ইনডিপেনডেন্ট ইউনিভার্সিটি, বাংলাদেশ (আইইউবি) এবং উগান্ডার ম্যাককেরে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পাঁচ শিক্ষার্থী। গত ১৫ জুন ভার্চ্যুয়াল গ্র্যান্ড ফিনালেতে এই প্রতিযোগিতার ফলাফল ঘোষণা করা হয়।
স্বর্ণজয়ী সিয়াম ইবনে মাসুদ, ইয়াজাজ আহামাদ ও তারিকুল ইসলাম সৈকত আইইউবির ইলেক্ট্রিকাল অ্যান্ড ইলেক্ট্রনিক ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী। অপর দুজন উগান্ডার ম্যাককেরে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মেকানিকাল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিংয়ের শিক্ষার্থী প্রেসকোভিয়া আমভিকো আডরাবো এবং মার্ক মুটেংগা। এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়।
সৌরশক্তিচালিত স্বয়ংক্রিয় অ্যানারোবিক ডাইজেশন সিস্টেম ব্যবহার করে খাদ্য বর্জ্য থেকে রান্নায় ব্যবহৃত গ্যাস এবং কৃষিতে ব্যবহৃত সার উৎপাদনের একটি প্রকল্পের নকশা করেছেন এই শিক্ষার্থীরা। মাত্র ৮৫ ওয়াটের একটি সৌর প্যানেল ব্যবহার করেই এই যন্ত্রটি চালানো যাবে। আইইউবির ইলেক্ট্রিকাল অ্যান্ড ইলেক্ট্রনিক ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং বিভাগের অধ্যাপক এবং গ্রিন এনার্জি রিসার্চ সেন্টারের পরিচালক খসরু মোহাম্মদ সেলিম প্রকল্পটির তত্ত্বাবধান করেন।
আইইউবির উপাচার্য তানভীর হাসান বলেন, ‘এটা আমাদের জন্য বিশেষ গর্বের মুহূর্ত। এরকম একটি বড় বৈশ্বিক প্রতিযোগিতায় পরপর দুবার স্বর্ণপদক জেতা দারুণ অর্জন। নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানির এই নতুন ব্যবহার আবিষ্কারের মাধ্যমে আমাদের শিক্ষার্থীরা পরিবেশের প্রতি তাদের দায়িত্বশীলতার শতভাগ প্রতিফলন ঘটিয়েছে। আমি তাদের আন্তরিক অভিনন্দন জানাই।’
২০২২ সালে সৌরশক্তিচালিত খাদ্য হিমাগারের নকশা করে এই প্রতিযোগিতায় স্বর্ণপদক জিতেছিলেন আইইউবির ইলেক্ট্রিকাল অ্যান্ড ইলেক্ট্রনিক ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী সাদিক আবদাল এবং তাশফিয়াহ তাহসিন। তাদের সঙ্গে একই দলে ছিলেন যুক্তরাজ্যের সিটি ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ লন্ডনের শিক্ষার্থী আলী আহমেদ এবং নূর বেন গাইয়েদ।
বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পর্যায়ের শিক্ষার্থীরা এই প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করে। স্বল্প আয়ের দেশগুলোতে নবায়নযোগ্য জ্বালানির ব্যবহার বাড়াতে বিভিন্ন যান্ত্রিক উদ্ভাবন নিয়ে কাজ হয় এখানে। এ বছর চতুর্থবারের মতো এই প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করা হয়। বাংলাদেশ, কেনিয়া, নেপাল, নাইজেরিয়া, সেনেগাল, সুইডেন, উগান্ডা, যুক্তরাজ্য এবং জিম্বাবুয়ের ১৪টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ২১টি দল এতে অংশ নেয়।
