রেনে রেমান্ড (৭১) ও তাঁর স্ত্রী লিন্ডা (৬৫) হলেন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ফ্লোরিডা অঙ্গরাজ্যের বাসিন্দা। সম্প্রতি এই দম্পতি ইউরোপের দেশ সুইজারল্যান্ডে বেড়াতে গিয়েছিলেন। সেখান থেকে ফিরে মুঠোফোনের বিল দেখে তাঁদের চোখ ছানাবড়া। দেশের বাইরে মুঠোফোনে ডেটা ব্যবহার করে তাঁদের বিল হয়েছে ১ লাখ ৪৩ হাজার ৪৪২ ডলার যা টাকায় হয় ১ কোটি ৫৬ লক্ষ টাকা।
এবিসি অ্যাকশন নিউজের খবরে বলা হয়, রেমান্ড প্রায় ৩০ বছর ধরে টি-মোবাইলের গ্রাহক। দেশের বাইরে যাওয়ার আগে তাঁরা মুঠোফোন কোম্পানিকে তাঁদের ভ্রমণের পরিকল্পনা জানিয়েছিলেন।
প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, কোম্পানির পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, প্যাকেজে তাঁদের সবকিছু অন্তর্ভুক্ত আছে। কিন্তু এরপর এটা কী হলো। কিন্তু তিন সপ্তাহের সফর শেষে দেশে ফিরে মুঠোফোনের বিল দেখে তাঁদের মাথায় বাজ পড়ার অবস্থা। ইউরোপ ভ্রমণকালে তাঁরা মাত্র ৯ দশমিক ৫ গিগাবাইট ডেটা ব্যবহার করেছেন। অথচ এই কয় দিনে তাঁদের ডেটা ব্যবহারের জন্য প্রতিদিন গড়ে ছয় হাজার মার্কিন ডলার করে বিল করা হয়েছে।
রেমান্ড বলেন, তিনি দেশে ফিরেই টি-মোবাইল কোম্পানিকে ফোন করেন। তখন একজন প্রতিনিধি তাঁকে ফোনের লাইনে রেখে বিল পর্যালোচনা করেন।
পরে ওই প্রতিনিধি বিল পর্যালোচনা করে রেমান্ডকে বলেন, ‘নাহ, বিল তো ঠিকই আছে।’ রেমান্ড তাঁকে প্রশ্ন করেন, ‘বিল ঠিক আছে বলে আপনি কী বোঝাতে চাচ্ছেন?’
প্রতিনিধি তাঁকে বলেন, ‘এটা হচ্ছে আপনার বকেয়া বিল।’ রেমান্ড জবাবে তাঁকে বলেন, ‘আপনি কি আমার সঙ্গে মজা করছেন।’ কোনো কিছুতে কাজ না হওয়ায় অদ্ভুত এই বিল নিয়ে রেমান্ড দম্পতি মুঠোফোন কোম্পানির বিরুদ্ধে আইনের আশ্রয় নেওয়ার হুমকি দেন। তবে গণমাধ্যমে খবর প্রকাশিত হওয়ার পর টি-মোবাইল কর্তৃপক্ষ তাঁদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে এবং বিলটি ঠিকঠাক করে নিতে সম্মত হয়। ওই দম্পতিকে এখন আর কোনো বিল দিতে হবে না।
