এ মাসের শুরু থেকে দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়াজুড়ে প্রচণ্ড গরম পড়তে শুরু করেছে। ৪ এপ্রিল মালয়েশিয়ায় হিটস্ট্রোকে তিন বছর বয়সী এক শিশু মারা যায়। এর পর থেকে দেশজুড়ে জলবায়ু-সম্পর্কিত অসুস্থতার ঝুঁকি বেড়ে গেছে। ওই সপ্তাহে ভিয়েতনামের দক্ষিণাঞ্চলে অস্বাভাবিক তাপমাত্রা দেখা দিতে শুরু করে। শুকিয়ে যায় ধানখেত। কর্তৃপক্ষ জরুরি অবস্থা ঘোষণা করে। ফিলিপাইনে একই সময় তাপমাত্রা ৪২ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াস পার হয়ে যায়। এতে শত শত স্কুল বন্ধ করে দিতে বাধ্য হয় কর্তৃপক্ষ।
জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের জন্য সবচেয়ে ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ অঞ্চলগুলোর মধ্যে একটি দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়া। এপ্রিলের শুরু থেকেই এখানে প্রচণ্ড দাবদাহ দেখা যাচ্ছে। বিজ্ঞানীরা সতর্ক করে বলছেন, শিগগিরই এ থেকে পরিত্রাণ নেই।
দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়ার ১১টি দেশ হচ্ছে ব্রুনেই, কম্বোডিয়া, পূর্ব তিমুর, ইন্দোনেশিয়া, লাওস, মালয়েশিয়া, মিয়ানমার, ফিলিপাইন, সিঙ্গাপুর, থাইল্যান্ড ও ভিয়েতনাম। এ দেশগুলোতে সাড়ে ৬৭ কোটি মানুষের বসবাস। জলবায়ুবিশেষজ্ঞ ম্যাক্সিমিলিয়ানো হেরেরা সিএনএনকে বলেছেন, দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়ায় তাপমাত্রা অভূতপূর্ব মাত্রায় পৌঁছেছে। এর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি তাপমাত্রা উঠেছে থাইল্যান্ডে। দেশটিতে গত ১৩ মাস ধরে তাপমাত্রা বৃদ্ধির রেকর্ড ভাঙছে। এখানকার তাপমাত্রা ও আর্দ্রতা বেড়েই চলেছে।
হেরেরা বলেন, ‘আমরা ভেবেছিলাম গত বছর তাপমাত্রা ছিল অসহনীয়। কিন্তু এ বছর সে রেকর্ডও ভেঙে গেছে। ব্যাংককের তাপমাত্রা ৩০ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসের নিচে নামেই না। এপ্রিলজুড়ে রাতের তাপমাত্রাও এর চেয়ে কমে নামবে না।
এই জলবায়ুবিশেষজ্ঞ সতর্ক করে বলেন, তাপমাত্রা বৃদ্ধির যে প্রবণতা তা অনিবার্য। এই অঞ্চলকে এপ্রিলের বাকি সময় ও মে মাসজুড়ে তীব্র গরম সহ্য করার প্রস্তুতি রাখতে হবে।
৩ এপ্রিল থেকে থাইল্যান্ডে শুষ্ক মৌসুম শুরু হয়। এ সময় থেকে থাইল্যান্ডের রাজধানী ব্যাংককে তাপমাত্রা ৪২ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াস পার হয়ে যায়। এতে অনেকেই শীতাতপনিয়ন্ত্রিত পরিবেশে ঘরে থাকার সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে বাধ্য হন। কাছেই ভিয়েতনামে শুরু হয়েছে খরা পরিস্থিতি। সেখানকার তাপমাত্রা ৪০ ডিগ্রি ছাড়িয়ে গেছে। এতে দেশটির গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কৃষি খাতের ওপর প্রভাব পড়তে শুরু করেছে। ভিয়েতনাম বিশ্বের অন্যতম বৃহত্তম চাল রপ্তানিকারক। কম বৃষ্টিপাতের ফলে সেখানকার কৃষকেরা সমস্যায় পড়েছেন। শুকিয়ে যাচ্ছে ধানের জমি।
এর আগে গত বছর প্রচণ্ড দাবদাহে অনেক শহরে বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ বিঘ্নিত হয়েছিল। এ বছর জলবায়ুবিশেষজ্ঞরা আরও দীর্ঘ সময় দাবদাহের আশঙ্কা করছেন। এর কারণ হিসেবে তাঁরা বলছেন, এল নিনোর প্রভাব। এল নিনো এমন এক প্রাকৃতিক ঘটনা, যা প্রতি দুই থেকে সাত বছর অন্তর ঘটে। বিজ্ঞানীরা বলছেন, এল নিনোর কারণে মানবসৃষ্ট বৈশ্বিক উষ্ণতা অস্থায়ীভাবে বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে।
১৯৬০-এর দশক থেকে দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়ার গড় তাপমাত্রা প্রতি দশকে বেড়েছে। বিশেষজ্ঞরা বলছেন, এখনকার দাবদাহের সবচেয়ে উদ্বেগজনক বৈশিষ্ট্যগুলোর মধ্যে একটি হচ্ছে এগুলো দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে এ অঞ্চলজুড়ে প্রসারিত হচ্ছে। এর শেষ দেখা যাচ্ছে না।
সুইজারল্যান্ডের জলবায়ু গবেষণাপ্রতিষ্ঠান আইকিউ এয়ারের গবেষকেরা বর্তমান দাবদাহের পেছনে মানবসৃষ্ট জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের পাশাপাশি এল নিনোর ঘটনাকে দায়ী করেছেন। ৫ এপ্রিল আইকিউএয়ার জানায়, এল নিনোর ঘটনাটি দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব এশিয়া অঞ্চলজুড়ে নজিরবিহীন উচ্চ তাপমাত্রার দিকে পরিচালিত করেছে। কবে নাগাদ এটি শেষ হবে, তার কোনো নির্দিষ্ট তারিখের পূর্বাভাস দেওয়া সম্ভব নয়। তবে এটি হ্রাস পাওয়ার বিষয়টি নির্ভর করছে আবহাওয়ার ধরন ও সরকারি নানা প্রচেষ্টার ওপর।
মালয়েশিয়ার পক্ষ থেকে চরম আবহাওয়ার পরিস্থিতি থেকে রক্ষা পেতে ক্লাউড সিডিংয়ের মাধ্যমে বৃষ্টি ঝরানোর মতো উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।
