সুনামগঞ্জে গত কয়দিন ধরে চলছে ভারী বর্ষণ। অব্যাহত আছে উজান থেকে নেমে আসা পাহাড়ি ঢল। এতে সুনামগঞ্জের নদ-নদী ও হাওরের পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। পানি উঠেছে জেলার নিম্নাঞ্চলে সড়ক ও বসতঘরে।
স্থানীরা জানিয়েছেন, জেলার নদী তীরবর্তী আবাসিক এলাকা ও জেলার নিচু গ্রামগুলোতে কারো ঘরে কোমর সমান পানি, আবার কারো ঘরে হাটু সমান পানি। এই পরিস্থিতিতে আশ্রয়কেন্দ্রে ছুটছেন পানিবন্দি মানুষ।
সোমবার (৩ জুলাই) সুনামগঞ্জের নদ-নদীর পানি বিপৎসীমার ওপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হয়। সন্ধ্যা ৬টায় সুরমা নদীর পানি সুনামগঞ্জ পয়েন্টে বিপৎসীমার ১৭ সেন্টিমিটার এবং ছাতক পয়েন্টে ১৩৬ সেন্টিমিটার ওপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হয়। এছাড়া, দিরাই পয়েন্টে বিপৎসীমার ৩ সেন্টিমিটার ওপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে।
রোববার থেকে পৌর শহরের হাসননগরের সুলতানপুর এলাকার বাসিন্দাদের বাসাবাড়িতে পানি প্রবেশ করায় সুনামগঞ্জ সরকারি কলেজের আশ্রয়কেন্দ্রে এসেছেন প্রায় ৭০টির বেশি পরিবার।
কলেজে আশ্রয় নেওয়া শামীম আহমেদ নামের একজন বলেন, আমাদের বাসায় কোমর পানি হয়েছে। তাই দ্রুত আশ্রয়কেন্দ্রে আসতে বাধ্য হলাম। বাসা বাড়িতে অনেক জিনিসপত্র ফেলে এসেছি, জীবন বাঁচাতে স্ত্রী সন্তানদের নিয়ে এখানে চলে আসছি। তবে আশ্রয়কেন্দ্রে আসা লোকজনের অভিযোগ সরকারি বা বেসরকারিভাবে কোনো ধরনের ত্রাণ সামগ্রী পৌঁছায়নি এই আশ্রয়কেন্দ্রে।
শালেহা বেগম নামের আরেজন বলেন, বাসার চারদিকে পানি আর পানি। বাচ্চাদের নিয়ে খুব কষ্টে একদিন পানিতে ছিলাম, কিন্তু আর বাড়িতে থাকতে পারিনি। বৃষ্টির জন্য বাচ্চার বাবার কাজ নেই। কাজ না করলে কীভাবে খাবো আর কীভাবে বাঁচবো। আমাদেরকে চেয়ারম্যান দেখে গেছেন তবে এখন পর্যন্ত কেউ খাবার দেয়নি।
এছাড়া, সুনামগঞ্জের দোয়ারাবাজার উপজেলার কয়েকটি সড়ক বন্যার পানিতে তলিয়ে গেছে। সুনামগঞ্জ সদরের সঙ্গে সড়ক যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা বিচ্ছিন্ন রয়েছে পাঁচটি ইউনিয়নের। এতে ভোগান্তিতে পড়েছেন ঈদে বাড়ি ফেরা লোকজনসহ লক্ষাধিক বাসিন্দা।
সুনামগঞ্জ এলইজিডির নির্বাহী প্রকৌশলী মাহবুব আলম বলেন, পাহাড়ি ঢলের কারণে আমাদের অনেক সড়ক তলিয়ে গেছে, পানির স্রোতে সড়কে ছোট বড় গর্ত হয়েছে। তবে আমরা চলাচল উপযোগী করতে ১২ উপজেলার ইঞ্জিনিয়ারদের নির্দেশনা দেওয়া হয়েছে।
সুনামগঞ্জ পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ডের নির্বাহী প্রকৌশলী মোহাম্মদ শামসুদ্দোহা রাইজিংবিডিকে বলেন, ভারতের মেঘালয় ও চেরাপুঞ্জিতে অতিরিক্ত বৃষ্টিপাতের কারণে ঢল অব্যাহত আছে, নদ-নদীর পানি বিপৎসীমা অতিক্রম করেছে। সুনামগঞ্জে স্বল্প মেয়াদী বন্যা পরিস্থিতি সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। আরও বৃষ্টি হলে সুনামগঞ্জ বন্যার অবনতি ঘটবে।
