১০৯ দিন কারাভোগের পর বিএনপি মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর মুক্ত হয়েছেন। বৃহস্পতিবার (১৫ ফেব্রুয়ারি) বিকেলে কেরানীগঞ্জ কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগার থেকে কারামুক্ত হন তিনি। মির্জা ফখরুলের আইনজীবী সৈয়দ জয়নুল আবেদীন মেজবাহ বিষয়টি ঢাকা পোস্টকে নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
তিনি বলেন, গত বছরের ২৮ অক্টোবর বিএনপির মহাসমাবেশের পর তার বিরুদ্ধে বিভিন্ন থানায় ১১টি মামলা দায়ের করা হয়। সব মামলায় আদালত থেকে তিনি জামিন পান। কারাগারে জামিননামা পৌঁছানোর পর আজ বিকেলে তিনি কেরানীগঞ্জ কেন্দ্রীয় কারাগার থেকে মুক্ত হয়েছেন।
গত বছরের ২৮ অক্টোবর রাজধানীর নয়াপল্টনে বিএনপির মহাসমাবেশ শুরুর আগেই কাকরাইলে দুপুর থেকে দলের নেতাকর্মীদের সঙ্গে পুলিশের সংঘর্ষ হয়। এই সংঘর্ষ পরে বিজয়নগর পানির ট্যাংক ও শান্তিনগর এলাকায় ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। একপর্যায়ে বিকেল ৩টার দিকে বিএনপির মহাসমাবেশ পণ্ড হয়ে যায়। এই সংঘর্ষে পুলিশের এক সদস্য ও যুবদলের ওয়ার্ড পর্যায়ের এক নেতা নিহত হন। আহত হন পুলিশের ৪১ ও আনসারের ২৫ সদস্য। এছাড়া, কমপক্ষে ২০ জন সাংবাদিক আহত হন।
এই ঘটনার পর গত ২৯ অক্টোবর মির্জা ফখরুলের গুলশানের নিজ বাসা থেকে তাকে আটক করে ঢাকা মহানগর পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) গোয়েন্দা বিভাগ (ডিবি)। এরপর তাকে প্রধান বিচারপতির বাসভবনে হামলা ও ভাঙচুরের মামলায় আদালতে হাজির করা হলে আদালত তার জামিনের আবেদন নামঞ্জুর করে কারাগারে পাঠানোর আদেশ দেন।
