40th anniv of SAAB held in Russian house

The 40th anniversary of the Soviet Alumni Association, Bangladesh (SAAB) and the 50th anniversary of the first batch of Bangladeshi students admitted to Soviet universities were widely celebrated in the Russian House in Dhaka.

It began on August the 7th 1972 when the first group of Soviet government scholarship students arrived in USSR just after the visit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Moscow. During the following years, more than 5 thousand graduates who received their High Studies diploma played a significant role in the development of Bangladesh which is still ongoing. They are not only experts in different fields but also real people in Russian education.

Acting President of SAAB Engineer Taqsem A. Khan recalled that on this day in 1982 at Soviet Cultural Centre (actual Russian House in Dhaka) started the wonderful journey of Soviet graduates by setting the first committee.

Professor Dr Kazi Saleh Ahmed and Dr Khondokar Bazlul Haque, respectively 1st and 2nd presidents of SAAB among other ones from the first batch delivered wonderful speeches about their experience and actual achievements.

Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh, and Maxim Dobrokhotov, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, congratulated all SAAB members on this special day and expressed the hope of expanding their activities in the future, read a media release.
