একটি মামলার জামিন শুনানির সময় ‘দেশটাকে তো জাহান্নাম বানিয়ে ফেলেছেন’ মন্তব্য করা বিচারপতি এমদাদুল হক আজাদের শেষ কর্মদিবস আজ। তবে তিনি কোনো সংবর্ধনা নেবেন না বলে সুপ্রিম কোর্ট প্রশাসনকে জানিয়েছেন।
রোববার (১৫ অক্টোবর) সংশ্লিষ্ট কোর্ট ও সুপ্রিম কোর্ট প্রশাসনের একাধিক সূত্র বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন।
এর আগে গত ১০ অক্টোবর তথ্য-প্রযুক্তি আইনের মামলায় মানবাধিকার সংগঠন অধিকারের সম্পাদক আদিলুর রহমান খান ও পরিচালক এ এস এম নাসির উদ্দিন এলানের জামিন মঞ্জুর করে আদেশ দেন হাইকোর্ট। একই সঙ্গে তাদের সাজা নিয়ে করা আপিল আবেদন শুনানির জন্য গ্রহণ করা হয়।
এ সময় রাষ্ট্রপক্ষের আইনজীবী জামিনের বিরোধিতা করেন। এতে ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করেন হাইকোর্টের বিচারপতি এমদাদুল হক আজাদের একক বেঞ্চ। এক পর্যায়ে এ বিচারপতির আদালত বলেন, দেশটাকে তো জাহান্নাম বানিয়ে ফেলেছেন।
পরে বিচারপতির এই মন্তব্যের পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে তাকে সতর্ক করেন প্রধান বিচারপতি ওবায়দুল হাসান। প্রধান বিচারপতির খাস কামরায় আপিল বিভাগের অন্যান্য বিচারপতিদের উপস্থিতিতে বিচারপতি মো. ইমদাদুল হক আজাদকে ডেকে সতর্ক করা হয়।
সুপ্রিম কোর্ট প্রশাসন সূত্রে জানা গেছে, খাস কামরায় আসার পর বিচারপতি ইমদাদুল হক আজাদকে অবসরে যাওয়ার আগ পর্যন্ত আদালতে বিচারকাজের সময় মন্তব্য করার ব্যাপারে আরও যত্নশীল হতে বলেন প্রধান বিচারপতি।
এদিকে হাইকোর্টের বিচারপতি মো. ইমদাদুল হক আজাদের এমন মন্তব্যকে ‘অসাংবিধানিক ও অসৌজন্যমূলক’ এবং এতে তার ‘শপথ ভঙ্গ হয়েছে’ বলে মন্তব্য করেন অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল এ এম আমিন উদ্দিন।
