ব্রিটেনের পররাষ্ট্র দফতর এক বিবৃতিতে বলেছে, ‘গণতান্ত্রিক নির্বাচন নির্ভর করে বিশ্বাসযোগ্য, অবাধ এবং সুষ্ঠু প্রতিযোগিতার উপর। মানবাধিকার, আইনের শাসন এবং যথাযথ প্রক্রিয়ার প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা গণতান্ত্রিক প্রক্রিয়ার অপরিহার্য উপাদান। নির্বাচনের সময় এই মানদণ্ডগুলি ধারাবাহিকভাবে মেনে চলা হয়নি।’
