Detroit offering monkeypox vaccines

Residents at Detroit city in Michigan of the United States, who have been exposed to or have been infected with the monkeypox virus, can now receive the Jynneos vaccine at the Detroit Health Department and the Wayne HIV/STI Clinic.

The decision was taken as part of measures taken to reduce the spread of the monkeypox virus.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will provide vaccinations for following cases.

1. Post-exposure prophylaxis -to prevent the development of virus in persons exposed to monkeypox virus.

2. Extended Post-Exposure Prophylaxis – people who have been with or are at risk of exposure to a person with known monkeypox virus infection in the previous 14 days.

Where monkeypox vaccination will be given

Wayne HIV/STI Clinic, 50 East Canfield in Detroit Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and 1st and 3rd Saturdays 8:00am to 12:30pm.

Detroit Health Department Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the Jynneos vaccine can still prevent illness and reduce symptoms of monkeypox.
