Under the ‘China’s South-to-North Water Diversion Project’, over 50 billion cubic meters of water was transferred from the country’s major Southern rivers to the North as of Friday (July 22).
Some 85 million people have benefitted from the project.
“After the completion of the first phase of the project, the annual water flow has been stood at nine billion cubic meters from two billion,” Project Deputy Managing Director Thian Young told the journalists.
He further said that the water supply has been stable in this region including the Danjiangkou Reservoir of Xi Yang city in China’s Hubei Province after ensuring the water quality and security of water resources.
The project has been meeting the demand for water of the local inhabitants.
