Over 60,000 utility customers in Michigan, mostly on the southeast side remain without power Friday, July 21, after a powerful thunderstorm brought strong winds, rain and hail as big as tennis balls.
DTE Energy said that 80 percent its 58,519 customers still without electricity after Thursday’s storm should have power restored by the end of Friday.
“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to everyone impacted by the extreme weather that hit Southeast Michigan,” DTE said in a statement.
On Thursday night, over 100,000 were without power.

Consumers Energy reported 3,300 without power on Friday.
DTE reported 17,866 outages in Oakland County, 17,236 in Wayne County, 10,687 in Macomb County, 9,428 in St. Clair County, and 1,363 in Livingston County. Hundreds were without power in Lapeer and Washtenaw counties.
Scattered outages were reported throughout the region.
Consumers Energy reported 963 outages in Ingham County, 806 in Livingston County and 450 in Shiawassee County. Others in West Michigan without power included customers in the counties of Allegan, Kent and Montcalm.
The afternoon storm brought wind gusts as high as 62 mph and hail as large as tennis balls in the Davison area near Flint. Hail the size of ping pong balls fell near Ann Arbor while smaller hail fell through the region.
