ফিলিপাইনের দক্ষিণাঞ্চলীয় প্রদেশ দাভাও দে ওরোতে একটি স্বর্ণখনিতে ধসের পর এ পর্যন্ত সেখান থেকে ৫৪ জনের মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। এছাড়া এখনও নিখোঁজ আছেন অন্তত ৬৩ জন খনি শ্রমিক।
রোববার (১১ ফেব্রুয়ারি) প্রাদেশিক প্রশাসন কর্মকর্তা এডওয়ার্ড ম্যাকাপিলির বরাতে এ তথ্য নিশ্চিত করেছে বার্তাসংস্থা রয়টার্স। ম্যাকাপিলি সংবাদমাধ্যমকে জানান, গত ৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি মঙ্গলবার ধস নামে স্থানীয় মাকো শহরের কাছে অবস্থিত ওই স্বর্ণখনিতে। তার কিছু সময় পরই উদ্ধার তৎপরতা শুরু করেন দুর্যোগ মোকাবিলা বিভাগের কর্মীরা।
তিনি বলেন, ‘দুর্যোগ মোকাবিলা বিভাগের তিনশোরও বেশি কর্মী ওই খনিতে উদ্ধার তৎপরতা চালাচ্ছেন এখনও। গত ৫ দিনে ৫৪ জনের মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা সম্ভব হয়েছে এবং ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, কাদা-জঞ্জালের স্তূপের নিচে এখনও আটকা পড়ে আছেন অন্তত ৬৩ জন মানুষ।’
ম্যাকাপিলি জানান, ওই এলাকায় ভারী বর্ষণ হচ্ছে কয়েকদিন ধরে। কাদায় পুরো খনি এলাকা ঢেকে গেছে এবং আরও ভূমিধসের আশঙ্কা রয়েছে। এ কারণে উদ্ধার তৎপরতায় কাঙ্ক্ষিত গতি আনা যাচ্ছে না।
কাদা-জঞ্জালের তলায় চাপা পড়াদের মধ্যে কারও বেঁচে থাকার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে কি না জানতে চাইলে ম্যাকাপিলি বলেন, ‘তেমন সম্ভাবনা খুবই কম। তবে আমাদের উদ্ধারকারী বাহিনীর কর্মীরা তাদের সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছে।’
