মার্কিন কংগ্রেসের যৌথ অধিবেশনে ট্রাম্পের বিস্ফোরক মন্তব্যের পর বুধবার চীনা দূতাবাসের অফিসিয়াল এক্স হ্যান্ডেল থেকে একটি পোস্ট দেয়া হয়। এতে বলা হয়েছে, ‘যুক্তরাষ্ট্র যদি যুদ্ধ চায়, তা সে শুল্ক যুদ্ধ হোক, বাণিজ্য যুদ্ধ হোক বা অন্য যেকোনো ধরণের যুদ্ধ; আমরা শেষ পর্যন্ত লড়াই করতে প্রস্তুত।’
ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের আরোপিত শুল্কের বিরুদ্ধে পাল্টা ব্যবস্থা নেয়ার কথাও জানিয়েছে চীন। একই সিদ্ধান্ত কানাডারও। এছাড়া মেক্সিকো যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের পদক্ষেপের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থার কথা ভাবছে বলে জানিয়েছে। মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের ঘোষণা অনুযায়ী, মঙ্গলবার স্থানীয় সময় রাত ১২টা ১ মিনিট থেকে মেক্সিকো ও কানাডার ওপর ২৫ শতাংশ শুল্ক আরোপ শুরু হয়েছে। অন্যদিকে একই সময়ে চীনের ওপর আরোপ করা হয়েছে অতিরিক্ত ১০ শতাংশ শুল্ক।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের শুল্ক আরোপের কড়া প্রতিক্রিয়া জানিয়েছে চীন। চীনের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের মুখপাত্র বলেছেন, নিজেদের স্বার্থ রক্ষার জন্য মার্কিন কৃষি খাদ্যপণ্যে ১৫ শতাংশ পর্যন্ত পাল্টা শুল্ক আরোপ করা হয়েছে। সমস্যা সমাধানে অবিলম্বে ওয়াশিংটনকে বেইজিংয়ের সঙ্গে সংলাপের আহ্বান জানান চীনের পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রলায়েরর মুখপাত্র।
